Sunday Funday

Today was a good day for a picture post. It was sweltering but we drove into Charlotte and had a nice family day before William goes back to school and Flora starts preschool.

Flora was in a lovely mood this morning!
Great Wall of China South in Charlotte has a fantastic Sunday lunch buffet! Will treated me while Flora had a mini playdate with her Mimi.
Flora had a haircut! We had to stop at the Carter store and buy some clearance sandals because we forgot shoes on the way out! They match her dress perfectly.
Flora is in love with every kitty she meets. 😻
Today was lovely but also tiring.
I can perch on my own countertop any time that I want!

With love,

Starting off the Second Half with a Bang!

Already midway through the year! Wow! So much has happened recently. A quick recap to start:

  • I’ve officially started my journey transitioning from a job to a career. It is scary but I believe it will be well worth the personal development and reduced stress.
  • I’ve given up my antique mall booth. That doesn’t mean I’ve given up on projects though!
  • My IG has changed from @duchessofsleepy to @just.hannah.thanks to reflect the changes in my life.
  • My second summer class has started just as my first one is winding down. I still have to get through my group presentation for business class!
  • Changes going on around the house soon. I’ll keep you all updated as things happen!

I spent the morning and afternoon with my younger brother in Charlotte today. We had a blast taking Flora to storytime at Barnes & Noble, re-living my past as a mallrat at Southpark, and then having an AMAZING lunch at New Zealand Cafe followed by delicious Snow Shakes from Kona Snow.

Flora was READY TO GO as soon as she was bathed and dressed this morning.
He is always so nice about enabling my selfie problem.
New Zealand Cafe! This is my brother’s bento box meal. I inhaled a single Sweet Dragon Roll (not pictured) and then ate all of his tempura veggies.
Snow Shake! I got passion fruit topped with whipped cream and passion fruit boba beads. It was amazing! Highly recommend Kona Snow!
Excuse the bathroom Myspace selfie. I bought this shirt at Target months ago and am just getting a chance to wear. I really love it.

I’m excited to attend some July 4th festivities in town this year! Does anyone have big plans? Family traditions?

Wishing everyone a beautiful weekend!

Lots of love,

Downtown Gastonia Sidewalk Sale

Yesterday was the first (hopefully of many) Downtown Gastonia Sidewalk Sale! It was great to have a bunch of the downtown merchants all out together. I even had my own spot set up with a little bit of housewares and a LOT of Flora’s outgrown clothes and baby items. Of course, being me, I spent more time talking and eating than selling!

The shady side of the street was a popular spot to set up!
It was so exciting having so many businesses represented in one block!
Not terrible for my first time at this kind of thing and flying solo! Next time I’ll have a prettier display. I was so happy that someone bought the bouncer, swing, and play mat at the very end! Everything left over will be donated.

During the sale, Sleepy Poet was having a pet adoption event with the Gaston County Animal Control. Of course I had to pet all of the puppies as the volunteers from the shelter brought them out. There were seven total and they were able to place four at the event! I even adopted one myself.

You guys, this is Alexandra (or Lexi)! She is a Lab/Terrier/Rottweiler mix and I am in love! Animal Control will drop her off at the vet on Tuesday for her physical and shots and then I can pick her up. We are counting the minutes until we can welcome her to her new home!

There are so many amazing things going on right now. It is so exciting to be involved in the revitalization of downtown. I’ll be adding a reference page to this site with links to some local businesses websites because there are just too many incredible places to list in a single post. I’ll be starting a “Local Flavor” feature as kind of a travel guide to Gastonia/Gaston County/North Carolina. If anyone has ideas of places to feature or owns a business that you would like to have featured please contact me!

With love,
